Martina, What a sweet quilt. Looks like the recipient is a music lover. Thanks for sharing picture!~

Nice quilts Happylab! It must feel really good to get 3 UFOs out of your hair!
Rob |
Martina- that's a neat quilt, I love the music fabric!
Rob |
That's a beautiful quilt, Martina. Thanks for sharing that sweet story and the photo.
Lovely finishes, happylab! The past few weeks I've been obsessed with organizing my stash, pulling fabric groups and matching them with patterns. Then my old faithful machine died, and we've been going around shopping for a new one. Machines are so complicated now! If I ever get through this manual, it will be a miracle. |
Joe'sMom, sorry to heard your old friend the sewing machine died. But you need to keep yourself busy by working hard at learning your new sewing machine. I know what a struggle it must be. What better excuse to sew than, "You have to learn how to use the new friend (sewing machine)." :D Hee Hee Hee. Congrates on your new machine and Happy sewing and learning your machine. Hope the learning curve is fast and short. Happy sewing.:sew:

More fun completions...thanks for sharing everyone...
joe'smom...let us know how your machine search goes...we all want to know what you get and why!:) |
Aunt Gracie's Patches

I finally put the binding on my Aunt Gracie quilt (a disappearing nine patch) just in time to enter in our state Fair - another one off the bucket list!
|
Glojean48...I like your quilt.
I am always drawn to scrappies especially those with a white background. Congrats on the finish. |
A winner Glojean48...is this the D9P?
|
Your Aunt Gracie quilt is beautiful, GloJean!
For our sewing machine hunt, we focused on a local dealer with an excellent reputation that had serviced my old machine, and they are a convenient distance away and very nice to work with. They carried Baby Locks and a few Jukis. Doing on-line research, I thought I'd found the machine of my dreams (the mechanical Juki TL 2010Q straight stitch machine, which everyone raves about), and we went to try it, thinking we'd come home with one. But I couldn't get the lower, side facing bobbin in to save my life, because of my arthritic fingers that don't work that well. That was such a disappointment, but the associate showed us the Baby Lock Jazz, which is also mechanical, but had a drop-in bobbin. I did some research and it wasn't encouraging: Not that many reviews, and as many negative as positive. I decided to get it anyway, because it fit the bill, although I was very uneasy because of the negative reviews (it doesn't have a needle up/down feature, which was a big complaint). I didn't get beyond trying the presser foot; it made a very loud buzzing sound when the pedal was depressed, and the buzz continued during stitching, so we took it back. I definitely didn't want such a loud machine. We ended up with the Baby Lock Soprano, which is their top machine in the tier below what the associate called the 'Hallelujah' machines (she said when you sit down at those an angelic choir sings the Hallelujah chorus, LOL), which were out of our price range. Now I just have to learn to use it! |
Love, love, love your layout for this D9P! Don't think I've seen it this way before. Well done!

Got the boom blocks all done and mailed off today. Since we came home in April it's been crazy around here with getting new flooring and I had orders for 3 king size customer quilts...that is a first but I guess word of the mouth really does work. Can't holler, it gives me play money for fabric :) I'm on the last one and just the borders, quilting and binding left. Seems like a lot but really not for the pattern I chose...like an idiot lots of seams to match up.
Anyway, I have had these in my drawer to be finished for at least a year, some 2, but now I'm set for the Autumn seasonWorking on 1 more but the binding isn't finished yet. |
Lisa, I have Baby Lock (Espire and Crescendo) and I can understand the choir singing comment. I LOVE my machines. Hope you two will have many hours of fun together.

jaba...lovely finishes for autumn decor. Fall is my favorite season.

GLOJEAN, LOVELY d-9 PTCH.
jaba, I like your autumn w/H and table runners. I enjoy making fall quilting projects as well. I may have to switch to my fall UFO's and get some of them done, so I can use them this year. |
Sorted through a stack of fabric and found ~8 small UFO's. I'll finish those up in the next couple days. I MEAN LITTLE, more like a mug rug.
|
Happylab, Congratulations on your three UFO finishes! Toot, Toot!

There's a pic of my r/w/b table runner. I started this 5 years ago. I had the blocks sewn all 1/2 sq blocks. I just needed to sew the blocks together to make blocks and border the runner. Then I stitched in the ditch. The pink place Matt I had to finish putting on the binding and I stitched in the ditch as well. I had started this over 10 years ago. I was practicing on my embroidery machine (I forgot how to use). Both projects are in my storage closet.both projects are UFO's.

Congratulations for your UFO finish and for making the fellow so happy. :) Toot, Toot!
I finished one last night and delivered it to the recipient today. He was so funny: Kept stroking the fabric and talking about how pretty it was. Finally I couldn't take it any longer and told him that he needs to open it up. He's been petting the back. lol This is a very chatty guy who got very quiet. I know that he loves it. He kept talking about where he was going to put it.
Congratulations on all 6 of your UFO finishes! You have been one busy lady. Toot, Toot!

I've been pushing this weekend to get the binding finished on my UFO Boomerang 13 swap quilt and as of this morning, it is finally done. About 10 different people contributed to the quilt so I'm very thankful to them. :)

happy lab and rider - thank you for your nice comments about my Aunt Gracie quilt.
Jaba - love looking at your Fall quilts. Since we have had such a cold summer here in Alaska I have already pulled out all my Fall quilts to decorate the house - one of my favorite seasons. |
Way to go Janice!

This UFO had been around for a year. I didn't enjoy making this quilt and it will be put the Goodwill box asap. I had the green leaf fabric for a project that got changed and I wanted to use it to make a simple pattern quilt. I like orange and thought it would look good with the green. When I started putting it together, I came close to hating it. Once the top was finished, I was ready to throw it but I laid it aside and worked on other more enjoyable projects. I went through my UFO pile when joining this group and I saw it again and thought it needed to be the first UFO I finished but I couldn't bear to work on it. I kept putting it off. Finally, it is finished and I am so relieved.
