Nice machine you have.
Crossstiticher, thanks for the info. I think I will turn it into a HC or use it in treadle. I am so used to using treadles that I do not like electric machines any more but people keep giving them to me. I will clean it and see how well she sews. Glenn

Irishrose, My machine may be black. It is really dirty so will not know for sure until I clean it. My wife thinks it is black also. We will see in a few days. Glenn

I may be wrong but it is my understanding that black side means that everything is black. I see that you needle plate is broken I hope you can find a black one. My bobbin plate is chrome. I am looking for a black one. It is my understanding also that they used black metal to make this machine. Mine uses round bobbine and it is a 1942 model 99. Kathie

Yes, Irishrose it is black I just dusted it off(Alabama red clay dust). I wonder where this thing has been I think my friend said it had been in his mothers attic. The motor and wiring are good but I think I will use it in a treadle. I took me awhile to figure what blackside was( I kept calling her backslide). I think I will call her Bruen Hilda she is heavy for something do small. Glenn

Glenn, I think Mamie will be a great boat anchor in her next life. When you're old and not overly strong, heavy is an understatement. I always thought my Elna was heavy. Uh-huh.

Take a look at the cool colors of this vintage Brother machine. Please tell me I'm not the only one who can just see a whole room decorated in those colors with the machine being the focal point. LOL

Excuse me for interrupting, but I have a vintage featherweight question. I bought a 1936 model yesterday, and took the bottom cover off to look. One of the wires (?) is covered with some sort of cream colored insulation which is flaking off. Does anyone know what this stuff is and why only one wire is covered? Is the flaking a sign that it should be replaced? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!

That is a cool looking machine. Needs to quilt with those colors for a chair in the room...maybe some curtains with those colors too.

I just purchased one in a case yesterday for $10.00. It's serial # is G25102801. Need to look up date, and of course am asking the board for help once again. It looks like Stawberry and Chocolate ice cream to me.
