Thanks Charlee. I am going to go back there and offer $10.

Addendum: I went back and decided against this Singer. I started to wonder if it was really a Singer, as the decals on the bed looked good but there was no "Singer" decal at all on the arm.

Instead I came home with a very rough W&W head, cabinet and treadle. It is so cute I could not leave it there. It is a Model 8, from 1876. Looking at the manual on ISMACS it appears that my cabinet is missing the drawers.
:) Go look at the photo thread Nicki...My W&W 8 is posted there...
Yes, your machine is missing a couple of things. The drawers, the slide plate are gone, as is the coffin top. When I get home I'll get the email for you for a guy that I've bought parts from. He might be able to help you with that. I love that the decals are still there, despite the abuse it's suffered. Be *REALLY* careful cleaning it...they disappear with a puff of air!! ;) The spooler (bobbin winder) is still there too...that took me two years to find! (check out that glass presser foot!)
Thanks Charlee, when I clean it what would you suggest I use on the head? Will the GoJo hand cleaner work?

My sewing teacher, Mrs. Irion, for Home Ec, must have been about 85 and really cranky. I got a C minus for my grade as she said that I didn't sew my skirt, someone else must have because it was too good. I learned to sew garments when I was 10 from my Mom. We were using Singer 66 machines and I recall it had the reverse on it.

I'm leary of the GoJo if the decals are exposed...that is, not covered by shellac. I've seen a few posts here and there of people that have silvered and lost decals using it, and while I know Billy's had a lot of success with it, it scares me a bit. I'd use sewing machine oil, rub it on gently, and use a soft cloth to wipe it down, reapplying as needed. You can put it on rather thick, and let it sit for a bit to soften the grime. Be really careful rubbing it on or off, so that the grime doesn't scratch the gold...

I'm pretty sure you're going to have an AWESOME machine when you've got her cleaned up!! :)

Looks like it was made in 1948 in Quebec, Canada, but there was no model number on the website. How about a photo?
Don't have the machine yet. My friend hit a couple of estate sales this morning and snagged me two machines so I'm not sure what I'm getting. Should be fun to find out.

Anyone around Carlinville, Illinois looking for a Green Singer? Was in Lisa's Antiques at Exit 60 Thursday and it is in Booth 46 for $12.50 in the cabinet. I don't know if it works. Also in Litchfield, at Today's Treasures, there is a Ricca in a cabinet for $14.99, a Montgomery Ward in a cabinet for $14.99, and another that I forget what it was (think a Singer) in a cabinet for $14.99. I picked up the Rocketeer in a blond cabinet with 2 drawers that I have been watching for 6 months or so for $50 (5 cams and some accessories) down from $75. Can't wait to get back to Louisiana to play with this one.

Thinking about it Nicky, I've used Murphey's Oil Soap on machines successfully before...you might try that! :)

You all can come on over any time. Love to have you. I think it would be as much fun as this shop.

Well, I was really disappointed in today's mail. I got my needle, bobbins and shuttle for my Minnesota B. The needles and bobbins were right, but the shuttle was the too big and the wrong shape. It was sent in the correct shuttle tube (#9), but it looked like it might have been some type of generic thing. The seller guaranteed it was right for the Minnesota B. I can (and will be) returning it, I sent a picture of what it should look like and hopefully I will get the correct shuttle.
