Darcene, my grand mother bought a 319 and it never sewed right, she traded in back in. The same Singer store said nothing about the recall. Years later my aunt found out there was a recall on them, but Singer never did or said anything for her about it. That is why I never bought a home Singer machine.

Three machines and change back from your $100 bill.

The key to it is to USE it a lot - if that belt on the bottom sets around it gets brittle and breaks or doesn't run right.

Phyllis, here is the site to date your machines. http://www.singerco.com/support/mach.../double-letter

Your 29k with 5,000 allotted is from July 5, 1946. Can you post a picture of these machines? The 29-4 was a boot or shoe repair machine. Depending on which version you have of the 29k, it could be for either leather or cloth?

    Interesting.

I found a neat thing in a box of parts and attachments. Thought you all would enjoy.

In my box of old attachments, there is another little brown paper bag with an attachment in it I haven't opened it not sure what is in there. It feels like the little twisted wire thing though.

Ok so I tested out the little twisted thing. In the instructions it said there were two of the little twisted things. I used the old Sears Commander, dropped the feed dogs and for the first time in my life I did some free motion. WOW!!! I did it. The little twisted wire thing works great. The Commander works real good for it. I do believe I'll just keep the machine set up like that until DGD claims her inheritance...

I have a motor, light, foot pedal and cord for a Singer Model 66 which needs to be rewired. Do I need to buy the materials from a sewing machine repair shop or will Lowe's or Home Depot carry the proper materials. I will have my son do the project for me, I'm trying to get the materials together to save him time. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

What does the twisted wire thing do and how do you use it?

I took a couple pictures of the gadget I used. I hope you can see it - I barely can.
