Well on a good note here are a couple pictures of my newest addition to this family. This is Willy 2, as this one is a 1894 version with an electric motor of my Willy (the treadle). We got him at an estate sale last Friday for $44. His cords were really frayed so my DH put a new cord on and he sewed a perfect stitch the first try! I had to take him and run down to Girls Night Out (which I missed) just to show him off - I was so excited! He runs so smooth and quiet it is amazing!

Look at all the attachments!

When Nancy brought this to class we all said that we wanted one too. This machine is so quite you could hardly hear it run and what a beautiful stitch it makes. The under side is even pretter. This machine has no bobbin. Willy 2 is so lucky to have found such a wonderful, caring home . Kathie

Nancy, Willy is very pretty or should I say handsome. Are you going to try and make something?

Thanks so much!
Tlpa, has the motor always smoked? Did you put anything in that motor to lubricate it - like Singer lubricant? If you put regular oil in the machine or something else - maybe that is why it is smoking or maybe it needs to be greased? I wouldn't fool around with a smoking motor, the motor could be going bad.

Nancy
Yes, the motor has always smoked, but I have only had it a short time and don't think it's been used in about 30 years, so was thinking it might just be heating up old grease. I haven't oiled it or done anything with it at this point. Don't know if opening the motor to take a look-see is something that can be done by a novice, or again should be done by the pros.
Thanks so much for the info!

Thanks Everyone!!!

Billy, Sorry about the damage. We have been having our share of that stuff up our way too. I have been fortunate that none of the trees in our yard have come down. Also, thanks for the offer. I will probably send you a PM in the next week or so.

All her parts are secure in a bag, and she is off the floor, so the dog hair is staying away. She has not been used in about 25 yrs and another week or two won't hurt. ;D.

It sounds like somebody put oil rather than Singer lube in the motor. Make sure you take it to somebody that knows how to fix Featherweights.
Okay, thank you!

It cant hurt to at least take a peak at the insides. You might see something obvious like a wad of dust or lint, or that indeed someone put oil all over in the motor. But if nothing looks out of place, ask a pro. Having your little machine burst into flames would be a bummer!
Thanks emmah! I guess I was a little afraid to open it, like if I open it things will spring and I'd never get it back together!

I took my machine apart and soaked it. Unfortunately my 5 yr old was playing with the camera. Yes, you see where this is going.

He deleted the photos I took. ARGH!!!

Needless to say, I have a million pieces in a bag and no blasted clue where to begin.

Does anyone have photos of their process or a link to a manual or schematic that I can follow? Thanks for the help.
Is there an undelete function?
