Maybe it's the sunshine QE!! Just getting to email etc this am.
Checked on dublb's packet--I did put tracking on it and after a week of lollygagging between Iowa and Texas it should be in her mailbox tomorrow!
Woke up with sore back and the Grands cold--hope it doesn't last. Guess I will have to go back to chiro this week- Doc told me to give it a couple of days--sore in the am when I get up--then take a bunch of aspirin and maybe good all day. Love this new decade I'm in! Does not go well with this time of year and lots to be done outside. All the rain we've had makes grass grow and then it's hard to find a day to mow. The corn planter is rolling today-finally. Looks like we will condense 3 weeks of work into one. Hopefully can make hay while the sun shines.
Such pretty babies and young boys. A joy at any age--love the tents-forts; such fun.
QNS those flowers are just spectacular!
Lovely finishes by young and old and some in between!
Nasty foxes--trade you for a dog!!! Isn't it frustrating when a quick 5 minutes they can destroy 2 weeks of work, GGal? I'm with QE on the binding--once I get to that it means just a short time and quilt can be used or gifted!
Re: Tea Only drink it hot from a teabag--drink herbal teas quite a bit as well. DH was raised on instant tea--so he just mixes his by the glass with cold water and a little ice. I don't care for iced tea at all--well maybe with a touch of lemon and even less sugar.
Timer just went off--choc chip bars in oven--trying to find cowboy cookie recipe. Must be hiding with my camera!!!!
Thanks for complements on GMFG--was fun to do when my sewing machine was out of commission and I thought a perfect addition to an old fashioned quilt! Oh and those little hexies are addictive--some day will share what I've been up to! Have gotten pattern ready for June MB--now to pick out fabrics.

Guess I will need to send the Cowboy recipe to you in your email, OKsewGlad.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words on our flowers. I just set out more, out on the right-of-way will be blooms at all times in the two tires we have out there. Set out the last the garden plants; dh is still finishing up on his seed planting.

GardenGal, have you considered electric fence...two strands...to teach the foxes where not to play? And JanRN, it works with racoons as well. Not expensive at a farm store to get the light weight small steel posts and connectors to connect the wire to the source back of your house. Goes 'click' every so often, depending on how you set it up.

Still trying to figure out bf's thinking...about the Iowa Shop Hop..she is going to ones we normally do on Highway 54, and since she will be in Des Moines, she will go to those with her gd during the day while dd is in the hospital. What ever happens, happens. If I don't get there, I don't get there. A bit disappointing.

No need, QNS, not only did I find it, but there are 12 dozen cookies made--half cowboy cookies and other half Amish sugar cookies. Most of them stashed in the freezer for later enjoyment. Guess I will be out in the field later--thank goodness for long summer days thanks to DST!
    All for now.

    Pretty flowers and babies too.

Great to hear from many of you. Sounds like all are keeping busy as usual! No sewing again today...I started a book and am almost halfway through. This is why I don't read very often...I don't do anything else until the book is done. I needed a break after all the sewing in May though before starting to quilt the airplane quilt so checked out a couple books at the library.

We did go pick up some asparagus from a widow. While there she shared many of her oil paintings...barns, animals/birds, mills, flowers, etc. She is nearly 90 yrs old and been painting for the last 40. She has beautiful flower gardens all over the yard...reminds me of the many pictures QNS shares with us. She gave DD a gourd she had dried/painted and cut an opening for a wren house.

We made unbaked cookies and cornflake bars this afternoon...everyone was wanting something sweet last night so they have choices tonight. Better figure out supper...

Good Morning everyone! Roosters are being moved into the chicken yard this morning, and the ducks to the orchard! No rain in sight, its going around us to the North, headed for Iowa.

I "think" I have caught up on all the goings on

I did write some notes but now I can't understand what my scribble is

QNS thank you for the stroll through your garden, it is so peaceful to just walk amongst the flowers.

JeanieG I hope you are feeling better and your home insurance is sorted out quickly and you can get back to what you love doing.

Anael, more beautiful photos of our babies, did you do some baking???

Cowboy choc chip cookies and brownies yum yum thank goodness they are only virtual

JanRN, Dublb, Honchey, Oksewglad, DD, GGal, Carriem and last but certainly not least QuiltE I am thinking of all of you.

Tomorrow is a big day for me, not only does DH come home but it is the first game of State of Origin. The football code is Rugby League, its Queensland against New South Wales in the best of 3 games held over 6 weeks. I am a diehard Queensland fan and we have won the last 7 years in a row. Now to make it 8 in a row

Anael...how close do you live to your DS? Those babies are soooo cute. Little Isa has a mischievous yet wise look in her eyes. Full of personality.OK...yes to the damage from critters if any kind in the garden. I found the beginnings of a burrow under the old stump I'm taming. I think I will have to put up some fencing to save my cabbage and peppers.
QNS...how long have you lived where you are now? Your yard has so many mature plants! Thanks for the tour.
Dubib...happy house hunting. Do you have pictures of what you did on retreat?
QuiltE....your Friends link is really busy. I have a saying I want to have embroideried on a block which has been holding me up. I might just have to use liquid pens and get it done.
Mirabelle....take the time you need. We'll sit quietly with you and your cuppa joe and maybe some if Carrie's and OK's cookies in the virtual RV. BTW...I did see a glimpse if it in QNS's garden tour.
I pruned the roses yesterday since they were so heavy they were causing the bushes to sprawl. I also got some mulch to spread but I think I'll wait a day. My hip popped out if socket when I slipped in the soft dirt. It feels okay this morning but another day before I work on uneven, soft ground is in order. I'm loving the special quilt which I'll call WW which stands for Wounded Warrior. I'll put another row on the class project this morning and be able to play this afternoon. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning QNS! Hope you have a great day with no rain...it is clouding up a bit here already even though it isn't supposed to rain until the afternoon.

Great to hear from you Karen. Enjoy your DH and game tomorrow.

Ggal--smart idea to give yourself another day to heal up! Take care of yourself and have fun sewing.

I finished my book last night (2--400pg books in 2 days), so today after a grocery run I will be heading back to the clubhouse. First clean up from the last quilt and then finish prepping the materials for quilting the airplane quilt...need to cut borders, binding, backing and batting into strips.

Hey Ya'll. I thought I'd let yall know about my retreat. Hmmm where ta start. I guess at the beginin'. The first day I drove ta my first friend;s house that is between Bluff Dale & Granburry. (Just south west ' FT Worth. More south than west.) I did stop at 2 LQS's on the way. The Next day Friend #1 & I headed ta Oklahoma City ta pick up friend #2. We were gonna meet at the I Hop that is on the way ta Springfield Missouri. Except for my GPS goin' out, things were agoin' smoothly till we approached Moore OK. The traffic was backed up for 2 hours. They were still cleanin' up from the Tornado & took up several lanes ta do that. We finally got ta the I Hop & ate a very late lunch. Friend #2 drove almost all the rest o' the trip. We used her GPS. At some point between OK City & Springfield there seemed ta be a slight vibration. We thought it was some o' the stuff we packed. It was a bit irritatin'. After we got ta the Hotel friend #3 met us there. I left them at the hotel & DB picked me up. I spent 3 hours at their house. That was fun.
The next mornin' the 4 o' us left Springfield for the longest drive o' the trip (I thought.LOL) It took up 10 hours ta git ta Crestwood Kentucky (just East o' Louisville.) We went through St Louis & passed the Arch & went over the Mississippi! Such neat bridges! Friend #2 did all o' the drivin'. I had a great time at the retreat. Made new friends & stayed up so very late several nights. I was agoin' ta bed when people were gittin' up. I taught a class on my method o' freezer paper PP that took much longer than I had planed. Several people said that they still didn't like PP but felt that they could do it now. Several people said that it helped 'em git started but then would finish the blocks it their own way, & the rest liked it. I used an easy pattern but explained that if they needed it for a very complicated pattern they now knew how.
While there we discovered that Handcocks o' Paducah was closed for Memorial day. We decided not ta go back home that way, but go back ta Springfield. So the 10 hour drive started late in the day Sun. The vibration became a rattle. We gathered everything that could possibly be loose. DH said ta add a fule injector cleaner on the next fill up. Well that didn't help. I still thought that somethin' was loose in the back.
The next day I spent w/DB & his family & the ladies took my truck & went out for a large FART. I had a great time. I got a personal tour o' the City O' Springfield, went ta Bass Pro Shop. Talk about neat! Went ta 2 Thrift shops. Even DB went ta the thrift shops. I also helped DN ta finish the pillow that she has been hand quiltin' for the last 3 years. She had finished the quiltin & needed ta construct the pillow.
When I got back ta the Hotel I found out that the vibration had made the Sequoia become a great big shakin' machine. The next mornin' we took it ta the Dealership & waited 3 houres ta find out that: yes it is under the extended warranty, the part wasn't in but would be there by 10:00am the next day (2 U joints & the drive shaft, all one big part), yes we would git a rental & the hotel would be covered as well. Friend #3 came back inta town & took 2 o' us shoppin' while Friend #1 stayed in the Hotel. The next mornin' we packed up as soon as we knew that the Part was in & the truck would be done be 12:00. Went shoppin again. After a nice lunch we went back ta the dealership only ta find out that the warranty people were draggin' their feet & not wantin' ta pay. It took 3 hours & till they finally paid. My friends & I were gittin' testy w/each other.) I drove the first 2 hours then had friend #2 do the rest o' the drivin' again. I knew that it was gonna rain & I haven't driven in rain in several years & even then only for about 10 min.s from my house. It did rain really hard. We stayed at friend #2's house in, OK City, that night. The next day we drove ta friend #1's DSis's house in Grand Prairie (a Suberb between Dallas & Ft Worth.) That was just a 3 hour drive. #1DSis is another friend o' mine also. We stayed the night there. ( I was tired & wanted ta take it slow.) The next day we drove back ta #1's house & stayed the night. (A 2 hour drive) We heard about the tornadoes in OK City & called friend #2. She was safe. Sigh o' relief! Sat mornin' I got up & drove the 5 hours home. WOW seein' it in print is a bit overwhelmin'.

What a trip, Bev, I'm tired just reading it! Glad the MB finally got there--tracking said it was to be there 5-28. It left Iowa on the 26th and meandered across to Texas for over a week. Lucky it didn't get swept up in a tornado, right?

Rainy day today--bummer. Guess I will clean--bigger bummer. Sis from ND coming Monday for an overnight; then sis from PA is whizzing through on Friday. Always tell DH he doesn't deal with my family often--but in large doses when they do come!!

Or maybe I will work on something for my Quilt Buddy. Their kids are hosting a surprise 50th for her and DH--Trying to come up with a design with 50 different fabrics. Any ideas?

Best of luck to Isa tomorrow.

Anael, will be thinking about Isa. And per another thread: NO, I will not show you The Box That Will Never Be Opened. At the rate I'm filling it, I'm going to need to build a storage shed in the yard. It will be The Shed That Will Never Be Opened LOL!

Bev, sounds like you had a great time (except for the car trouble.) What a great present you gave yourself to be able to spend all that time with friends and family. Glad everyone is home safe.

I made myself a promise that I would get one of my Quilts for Rosie quilted this week. I've practice, followed videos, read books, etc., and I've come to the conclusion that I am not an FMQer. I did fine on my Viking with the feed dogs down and just stitching over lines. But the Sweet 16 doesn't have feed dogs and I'm the one (supposedly) in control of speed. Well, I feel out of control--lines are jerky, I miss the drawn lines, and it looks like ****. I have 4 out of 12 blocks done and I'm determined to finish it. Sorry for the hissy fit but I'm so wanting to do FMQ and have it look nice. Oh well, I can add this quilt to The Box.

JanRN....someone's trash is someone else's treasure. Send me your box and I'll pass it on to those who do chariety quilts. I'm sure they will use them up! Maybe you even know a group in your area that does that. Fresh starts....even in the box that never sees the light of day....can be a very good thing!

    Anael--Praying for Isa's surgery.

Bev--sounds like other than the car trouble that you had a nice time. Thanks for sharing.

OK--for the 50 fabrics quilt, you could do a D9P using a charm pack (40 fabrics) plus 10 more fabrics. Not sure if you are looking to make a quilt or something smaller. If they are having a party, the 10 extra fabrics could be more solid and used for signature blocks to be signed at the party.

Jan--you can't put your Rosie quilt in "the box"!! Are you quilting the Christmas one or the batik one? If it is going in your box, let me know and maybe I can send you some fabric in exchange. Don't give up completely on the FMQ...maybe pull out some of the blocks in your box to practice some more. I don't have any suggestions as I haven't really attempted FMQ yet. Do you have anyone nearby that can come over and give you one on one help?

Good suggestion Carrie--I was thinking about using some black and white fabrics as they have "generic" (aka Holstein) cows--but don't think I have 50 pieces in my stash, plus this is on Sunday and today is Tuesday. My mind was rattling with ideas when I was in the field yesterday. Thought of doing a crazy looking cow outline with said 50 fabrics. Of course could use 50 fabrics of any kind. Also thought of making a EPP triangle quilt. Just found this on Pinterest. I have the book most of these cows come from okay off I go!!!!!

OKsewglad, I like QNS's suggestion for your quilt but I'd love to see a cow outline in crazy colors! What a fun quilt that would be.

Carrie, I'm doing my Christmas Rosie. It's only 12 blocks (odd size to fit on back of couch). Thought I'd start with the smaller one and work my way to the larger batik one. Thanks all for your suggestions and encouragement on the FMQ; my friends laugh and tell me I'm too anal to FMQ. I think they're right.

Have an interesting FART on Saturday. We're going to a fabric outlet. Have any of you ever been to one? I checked their website and they show name brand fabrics. Wonder about the quality of the fabric--would it be seconds? I need backing for 2 projects so I hope it's okay. It will be fun no matter what. And then I'll have to FMQ some more projects--oh no!!!! LOL.

Sounds like everyone had a good day and has made some good plans and good food.

Went back to the closing Ben F store and invested more monies into increasing the stash with neutral of browns and blues and grays...just a couple of pieces that was not neither of those colors....Hope to connect with bf and go on Highway 34 for some Iowa Shop Hop if dd of bf does not go into labor tonight...and we will be on call tomorrow for her to call then. Also found a beginners book on free motion quilting.

This month will tell us how many hens and drakes there are in the 9 little brown ducks; the tails will curl up if they are a drake and the bill tends to be yellow or almost so instead of black/green. We may only have one hen. Time will tell, July 6th they will be four months old. First group of straight run chicken...out of nine, we have five roosters!! In the second group, we may only have one hen out of the nine chicks....so will either sell or dress out the surplus of roosters. Things were quieter in the hen yard with the ducks back in the orchard today.

Anael, my thoughts and prayers are with the SEWGRANDS.

Honchey, have the dgc wore you out? Are you working, too on top of the dgc visit?
