I just HAVE to vent. I have had my phone # for over 3 yrs now. Almost immediately we started getting phone calls for a local nursery. I put up with it the first year, but the 2nd year I thought "that's enough". I went to the nursery, the woman denied knowing my phone #. I bought some plants and as I was checking out I picked up her business card and lo and behold!!!! MY phone # was on it. It was her old FAX #! She apologized, said she hadn't had the # in 2 yrs. Okay -- so be it. I was nice last year to people when they called. Well, I started getting them again THIS year!!! I just talked to a woman (after running into the house to answer the phone because I'm waiting for a call)....she said she was at the nursery last Saturday and picked up a NEW card and my # is on it!!!! ARRRRRRGH!!!! Well, I tried to call the nursery.....yeah, so much for customer service....the voice mail gives her open hours and then hangs up on you!!! I'm going to have to go over there and talk to her AGAIN.....I'm really finding it very hard to be nice to her!!!! And some people wonder why they can't stay in business...... :hunf:

thanks for letting me vent.

That's really annoying!! We had about 2 years where a local Coffee shop had our number as their fax# They finally called us after getting complaints from customers and apologized and let everyone know about their new number!

Refer her to Vista print - cheap and sometimes free business cards!

Don't go to them, you have no proof that you tried to stop it. Write them a letter that says:

On _____I spoke with ______ and asked that you not hand out business cards with my home phone number on them. (It's your old fax number) This request was disregarded. My attorney said to mail you this letter and thereby making my request for you to stop handing out business cards, receipts, shopping bags or anything else with my personal phone number on them a formal request. I will be keeping a copy for my own records in case there is a need for future litigation.

Sign it, date it, and mail it so that it has to be signed for. That should do it. Or you could just answer you phone and say, "We don't want your business, try __________ " and give them the name of another nursery. LOL

Wouldn't that be a problem for the phone company to fix? :?:

I don't think it is the phone company's problem....as the owner would need to request the update. - I would send any letter ceritfied - then you will be able to take legal action if the owner does not respond this time.. Very frustrating!

Great idea. In the interim, get a notepad and start taking orders from the people who call. Name, address, phone number, email. Don't take their payment just tell them to pay when they receive a statement. Set up delivery dates if that is part of the order. Diligently write the orders down on the notepad just as if you were the business owner. Don't be lax, remember everything the order would include.
Send the notepad paper to the store owner every 6 months until she shows you proof the problem has been resolved./Regards, Dorothy

I LOVE this idea! I don't necessarily want to be the cause of lost business for someone but.... wait a minute!! I'm not the cause. The business owner is!!!

Something similar happened to me at my previous address. I kept getting collect calls from a location I won't name. For these types of calls, the operator has to ask if you'll accept the call? Thirteen years I put up with this. Why? I don't know... just stubborn, I guess, plus it cost money to change the number on top of the inconvenience. One night, I lost my patience. Started telling the poor operator (I was polite) about how these same idiots keep calling me!!! Don't they know by NOW, after so many years, that they're calling the wrong number? Just how STUPID are they?!! Of course the operator could only commiserate with me. BUT, I could hear the "idiots" chatting in the background so I knew they heard what I was saying. I knew they heard me... the collect calls stopped.
