My son and his wife like Marietta. His twin sister lives in Roswell. Marietta definitely has a quilting community like calicoquilter said. My daughter says there are copperheads but my son has never mentioned them. Both of these kids grew up in Massachusetts and prefer the milder winter weather. Lots of people like the greater Atlanta area. I think it's a good bet. Best wishes for your hunt. Lake Lanier is very nice and that is in Cummings Georgia.

Good Luck finding your perfect place.. Consider Springfield Missouri. One other consideration is that Missouri has some of the LOWEST real estate taxes. Oh yes, it does get hot in July and August, and tornadoes appear on the outskirts; but if you like to gamble - 1 1/2 hours away are some great casinos, LOTS and LOTS of quilting groups (Ozark Piecemakers for one) friendly people, hospitals, etc. Just a thought tho - Im afraid there will be NO ONE place that will match your list - good luck!

More great suggestions! I just took at look at Lancaster -- my father's family was from Minersville and Pottsville and so I have a soft spot for Pennsylvania -- although those two locations look very different now than they did when I was a child. I was surprised that most of the real estate available in Lancaster was in the form of attached houses. Disappointing.
My sister-in-law and family moved to Smyrna TN quite a few years ago and they love life down there. I'll have to ask her about snakes.
BTW, my husband is no fan of snakes either. I guess if we go South they're inevitable, so I'll need a good sharp hoe and/or a gun! That's the one good thing about Long Beach. No snakes at the beach. Just ocean that comes through your front door.

Oh, Krystyna, we'd love to have you on the mountaintop but we have snakes and intemperate weather (DEEP snows). Lower altitudes in West Virginia might suit you. Recommend greater Morgantown/Fairmont/Clarksburg area. Everything on your list except no snakes. SNAKESes is EVERYWHERE but if you don't go poking around you mostly won't see 'em. If no SNAKES is your deal breaker, I'm afraid you'll have to go 'across the sea to Ireland.'

I live on the west coast and I love it here. However if you are looking for east coast I have a suggestion. My son lives in Columbia SC and when I go visit him I am struck by how much I like it there as well. They are far enough inland that Atlantic storms don't bother them much...just bring rain. The area, especially rural small towns are charming, the country side quite verdant. House prices are very reasonable and well made. I am sure there is a lot of quilting going on you would just have to check it out on the Internet. I was also impressed by how nice were all the people I met. It is close to some wonderful scenic attractions and not that far from Charleston. As for snakes I did not see any, but snakes are a part of nature as well. As for fabric stores...I did check out a few and had to bring an extra bag home to accommodate the shopping.

So true! Northerners don't always know quite to make of us when they first get here. We do that in Illinois. Have meet some very nice people that way. I love Texas too and we winter there for 6 monhts.
