Well, we have a treadmill, recumbent bike, bow flex, DVDs and now an elliptical. I hate the bike(DH loves it) I was just into loving the treadmill, when I developed bursitis in my hip. Walking, running, jumping (aerobics) is no longer feasible. In PT, I was given a list of exercises to do to strengthen my core. I did those faithfully and then got really bored. I read about T-Tapp and ordered the basic workout and total workout. They are really hard at first, but you need no equipment and there is no jumping. Takes a minimal amount of space. They are not cheap, but are cheaper than the other stuff we have purchased. T-Tapp was invented by a physical therapist and if you go to her website, you can try the exercises for free(t-Tapp.com) also there is the NoExcusesWorkOut.com- uses no equipment either. I do use my elliptical b/c it doesn't irritate my bursitis-lateral movement. I miss being able to go for walks-I think that's what I hate most about this inflammation. It's better than it was and I am thankful for that.

Mine weighs about 90 lbs. and has fur and demands to go explore the street twice a day, in the morning and then about 7, right when my baseball games come on -- my favorite quote is "think of her as an exercise machine with fur" -- the problem with all exercise stuff is actually using it -- at least mine is demanding and gets me moving

I joined Total Fitness, a block from my house. I drive over there, tee hee. My insurance pays $20/mth if I make it over there 12 times during the month. I pay $10. Love the tread mill, some times I use the equipment. Check with your insurance company and see if they pay for part of a gym. That way you aren't payin out all those big bucks for a machine you might not use. But the home treadmills are great for hanging ironing on.

I have an elliptical that i love to use....some have a pretty big footprint though so make sure you have the room. Also, try them out if you decide to get one because on some cheaper models the foot pads are to far apart to be comfortable. I have a gym type model, which was spendy but perfect. These are like running, but not jarring your knees or back. Good luck!

This is my problem also. Walking has always been my best form of exercise until four year ago when I developed a lumbar pinched nerve which has altered my whole life now. I also have bursitis in the hip on the same side as the nerve pain. So, any exercises that entail stepping, walking , lifting are banned. In the morning, my pain is minimal, as the day wears on and spinal compression occurs, the pain increases until about dinner time, I can barely walk at times. I had Phys. therapy for months but three times a week at a co-pay of $25 per session was fianally out of the question. The reclining bike was the best exercise for me but way too expensive for me to buy myself. Any ideas anyone has, I would sure like to know about.

I got a great deal at a local gym for $10. a month. I have access to all kinds of equipment, but usually use the treadmill. I also use the swimming pool the water temp is just right, not to hot or cold. I try to go at least 3 times a week if not more, by the end of the month I figure they are paying me to come!!!
