In the olden days we always flipped the binding to the front or just turned the backing over the sides and sewed it down. I machine stitch almost all of my quilts so I do not have a problem with that. I think some quilters are snobs and think their way is the only right way. Like everyone on here says "It is your quilt so do it the way you want to."

I have always loved handwork but ecently I was doing some free motion quilting when the lightbulb went off. I get get so much more accomplished if I machined quilted. So now I am a convert to the machine.

I also do my bindings by machine. I do small bits of embroidery, cross-stitch, and crochet. Maybe I can join the weirdo group and we can be happy together!

I hate hand work and only do it when I HAVE to. So no, you are not alone.

Like everyone has said, do what makes you happy . I like hand work, I have never gotten the hang of machine appliqué and avoid it. The point is to have fun, so why do something you don't like?

LOL there sure are quilting snobs!! That is why I don't like guilds, there are some anal folks that think their way is the only way to quilt, wrong, you can do what ever you want. On the other hand if you enter a competition the quilt police are there and they do have "guidelines" so if you ever do enter a show be prepared for critical remarks...just sayin, don't mean to open up a can of worms....

I totally believe that hand stitching bindings was brought on in the really old days before they had machines and did everything by hand. I'm betting if machines were there from the beginning, hand stitching bindings would have never been invented.

Took some quilt pieces up to hospital with me while brother was in having stints put in awhile back. Didn't even make it through sewing the first two together by hand. By the third knot, I looked at sister in law, she laughed and I stuffed them back in bag and pulled out a book. That is the extent of my handiwork in last 20 years beside sewing on a button once in awhile. My work is done by machine, very old machines mind you. Quilt Police would be proud.
