CA I believe, had their Viking and Pfaffs yanked because they also sell Babylock, Bernina, Janome and others. And yes, the decline in quality of both Viking and Pfaff since the buy out has been discussed at length here (again you can do a search).
We have a dealer here in So. CA that sells all of the different brands :?: :?: :?:
I just found out last week from a former Bernina sales person that Berninas have been made in China long before the Pfaffs. Major components in Vikings and Pfaffs are still made in Sweden.
Sounds like this sales rep. is disgruntled and wanting to start garbage.

Hmmm. If they sell Viking, Pfaff, Janome, Bernina, & Babylock I find that very interesting. My dealer refused to sell only Viking and Pfaff and they had their contract yanked.

They are a great shop....have feet for every machine imaginable. They have good prices and will mail them to you the day you order...very fast. Also, because they have all the different brands, they don't push one particular one. They really do try to match the machine with the sewer.

Actually I didn't buy my machine from them. I didn't know about them when I was shopping for one.

They often have educators come to the store to conduct classes which I really enjoy. If you ever get down this way, you might want to stop in. Just bring $$$$

I bought the Sapphire 850 in 2007. I love this thing. It is a work horse, in fact I will buy another one soon. I have never had any trouble with mine and I quilt king size quilts all the time on it and never skips a beat.

About 2 years ago, I got a Viking Sapphire 875Q especially for quilting and the wide throat/harp area. I hate it, it is loud, shaky when sewing, doesn't wind bobbins nicely (fickle, sometimes it does). It has been back 3 or 4 times, the dealer isn't happy with the new ones, they are made in China. Search on the internet for information and feedback on the newer 875q.
I have tried contacting the Viking Company, and they say that the dealer said that it is a bit loud, that it is the thread I am using that makes the bobbin wind loose ( bought the spool from him and we tried his, it didn't work). If you are buying a Sapphire 850, make sure you try the one you are buying in the store before bringing it home. Wind bobbins, listen to how loud it sounds, and how much it vibrates before you pay for it and bring it home. Most Viking dealers have a no return policy once the machine is used. I didn't know that when I bought mine.

Make sure the needle threader works smoothly too. I sew on my 10 year old Janome 10000. It is quiet, smooth, runs well. The viking sits in a closet, waiting for the day that the Viking corporation works something out with me. Buy a Viking Sapphire that is not made in China.

As with everything, cars, computers, TVs or sewing machines; one mans love is another ones hatered of the product. There will always be either Viking lovers, Bernina lovers, etc. Also as with everything once in awhile a bad one will fall thru the crack and get sold; that is life rather it is mechanical or even the food that we eat. Alot of times shops change what they are selling in order to make a larger profit; nothing wrong with that but they should just say we changed our line and not belittle the other machine. How many times in the past few years have we heard of companines having problems and maybe facing bankruptcy and then to come out of the slump;look at Sears. I have a Singer of 26yrs that still works great, a Kenmore/Janome of 3yrs that works great and a Viking Mega quilter of 1yr; great machine and I have the Viking #1 in the shop that I have just replaced with a Viking Ruby. All of these machines are great but I've met others who have other machines and they feel the same way about thier machines; that's the way it should be. If Viking was such a poor quality machine they wouldn't still be selling and people like the ones on here that have had thiers for years and are holding on to them wouldn't exist. Keep on loving your machines; try out different ones at different shops if you decide to buy a new one. Each one offers something different.
