My DH went shopping today and spent 300$ on things.. so I figure I still have 240$ to spend on vintage machines or fabric..

Carmon from April 1930's said that it is a lead tube that encloses the wires to protect them from the gears. He recommended a wire brush to remove it. This is not something that needs to be all the time. It was because of not being done for a long time. I hope this info can help someone else :thumbup:

We will certainly give them something to think about!! LOL Nancy, I'll take some photos of the machine covers soon and post along with photos of the 'new' machines.
Missed out on the two my son found on Freecycle, he was in a meeting (at work) and by the time he got back to email they were gone. Oh well, at least someone else has the opportunity of saving them now!!

Thanks Bronwyn! I'm so excited over her. Now all I really want is a hand crank machine and then I'll be super happy and probably done collecting for a little while. :)
