I would try and figure out what your potential is for selling tickets and compare it to how much you would like to make... If you have 10 people who will be helping you sell tickets, they should be able to sell 10 tickets each. that is 100 tickets. So if you want to make $500 then you would have to have the tickets be $5 each.

Because you are just selling chances it does not matter how many chances you get it matters how much money you make, so if you want $5 from each person do the one chance for $3 or 2 for $5 most people will pick the 2 for $5, and tell your ticket sellers to push the 2 for $5.

yes.... and they sell better than $10 tickets.... I did $10 tickets... found people would rather buy 4 for 20 than two at 10. Raised almost $3,000!! Go for it!!

You have different markets- people who want to support your cause and may put in 5 or 10 dollars no matter what the tickets cost and the people who don't know, or even care, much about your cause but might buy a ticket for a chance to win the quilt.

The trick is to sell tickets to both! I have been at charity events when I wanted to support a raffle and have been a bit blown away by the high entry level price for participation, but I have paid it and, in that situation, you probably will make more on higher priced ticket. (The situation you are planning to sell in though, does not sound like this to me.)

But for the passing person who thinks the quilt is cute and wants to take a chance on owning it, I think the psychology is quite different and you will lose sales by upping the minimum stake. Only you can know how that balance weighs up in the situations where you will be seeling tickets.

PS, if 100 people buy a ticket for 5 dollars, or 100 people buy 6 tickets for 5 dollars, each person has the same (1%) chance of winning but many of them will feel they have a better chance with multiple tickets- it doesnt make sense, but if it influences purchase, you have to bear it in mind.

I would go with the $2 or 3 for $5 or $1 and 6 for $5 --I would buy then, but for $5 for one ticket, probably would pass. I have only done that once and the quilt was a fantastic Baltimore Applique quilt that had been hand quilted. Didn't win either. grin. but would spring for the 3 for $5.

I probably would not pay $5 for just one ticket. But I would have no problem paying $1 for one or $5 for 6 chances.

I would no doubt pay $5. It's a win-win situation when it's a good cause and the buyer likes the winning product. But....there are people out there who probably wouldn't. You might sell more tickets if they were cheaper.

If it is a cause or charity that I believe in, I would spend whatever is asked. But, that said, you might do better in quantity if the tickets were a liitle less. For instance, if the tickets are $5, then they will buy one ticket. If they are $2 each, $5 for 3, 10 for 10, you'll get more takers at the higher. The whole point is to get as much as possible. It's what we did at an annual charity I was involved with, you be surprised how many bought $10 worth.
