I usually take her to the repairman when that happens. But, if I knew what causes it. I would do what ever to stop it.
Most of the time it is the old oil gumming up in the works. In my 301 manual it states to put a little Kerosene in the oil holes and run it until if frees up then put a drop of oil in the same spots afterwards.

A lot of the time you can pop the top of the machine off and open the face plate and take a hair drier and warm it up then put a few drops of oil in the spots and it will work.

Well it usually takes a Zigzag capable machine to do a satin stitch, the 500series will do that or you can get the ZigZag attachment for your machine. As far as the thread I imagine that it will run it, it would be up to the size of the needle. But there are a few folks here that would know how to answer that one for you!

well....I just had to jump on the bandwagon and get an old Singer. She needs a cleaning before I take a picture but she runs really good. She is in a nice cabinet. Instruction book says she is a 66-16 no. on front is AH09012 How can I find out about the time she came out? I plan to use her for quilt piecing. I first started sewing on a Singer treadle when I was very young and of course the shiny black machine carries many memories. What would you suggest I clean this girl with? Would blade wash be suitable? Son't wat anything to ruin the decals but want her to shine. I have the instruction book and it says to fill the two motor grease tubes about every 6 months. What wouold you suggest I use? I really enjoy seeing everyones machines. I feel lucky to have this one even though it may not be a real valuable one. Mary M

I will take tea!

Miz Johnny, what is a 'spring needle' or a 'spring foot?'

A drop of oil in the oil tubes about every year or so is plenty for the motor. Here is the tutorials that I did on cleaning the vintage machines. There are 3 in the series and if it is electrical then you need to look at my electrical tutorial.

Your machine is a 66 and 15000 of them were allotted on May 9 1947!

Wow, that thing looks dangerous! So I would use that without a foot?
