But.....but....don't you always buy a 'bit' more just "in case"? lol

Yes, I'd say a bit more just to make sure you've got enough in case of cutting mistakes or a measuring mistake is a good idea. Buuut, sometimes a bit more is more than a bit more, like the time I was trying to get 1/2 yard of fabric for a binding, couldn't decide between two so decided to get some of each. Apparently my brain wasn't connected to my mouth that day because instead of 1/2 yard of each I told the lady at the cutting table I needed 2 and 1/2 yards of each. Even I can't mis-cut enough to need 5 yards of fabric to make sure I've got enough for 1/2 yard of binding LOLOL! Luckily, the colors of both are good for the type of quilts I've been making lately so they will get used.

Of course you do! And I always round up to make it easier on the person cutting the fabric. So like if I need 3/4 of a yard I'll round up to 3

that's some rounding I've got to say. And I have the same verbal problem rryder has. I have no idea how it happens.

April projects were 2 scrap quilts, one with 840 (4 1/2") equilateral triangles the other with 900 (3") squares-- paired with 900 white on white (3") squares really eats up scraps! Between the scrap triangles & squares they used 16.75 yards of fabric! Add in the 6.75 yards of white on white I used up 23 1/2 yards of stash fabric! Amazing when I do the math.
Even more amazing that I had that much scraps to use! There's still a lot more but I'm making good dents.
next quilt will be an appliqué one-- more scraps to use up.
i did purchase 4 yds. of wide fabric for the triangle quilt-- 1 yd to use for borders, 3 yds. for the back. My shelves are no longer crammed, there is room on them and I'm finding I have smaller pieces to choose from. I think more scrap quilts are in my future. I've also been participating in some on going projects/swaps that use up some bits here & there-- April probably another 3 yards between the fabrics I sent in packages and the apron I made.

really nice use of your stash.

I'm doing some make fabric for a background for the pet b-o-m that should use up maybe a yard all told. I may do the backing the same way that would use another 1 1/2 yards I think.

I'm working on a throw. I was able to grab all of the fabric from my stash except for one 1/4 yard for the cornerstones. What a great feeling! I could have not bought that last piece but it tied everything else together. I did have a tendency to overthink my fabric placement so I'll have to work on that.

Talk about being disappointed: We went to a quilt show in Anderson, CA today and it was a lovely show - quite a lot of variety. However, the vendor section left A LOT to be desired. I was SO READY to jump off the wagon, and....nothing! I bought a bag pattern and the guts for the bag innards. That's it. There was not a single piece of fabric that wanted to come home with me. That's not true - there were some pretty FQs but she wanted $3 and I won't pay $12 yard at a show. SO there! Back to my stash to pull out a jelly roll for the purse. Love my stash.
