Mirabelle, you do really beautiful work; it almost makes me want to dig mine out like that. Except mine would not look that pretty. I am anxious to see more beautiful work on that quilt.

Carrie, hope all goes well for you this week. GrannyQ and her dh as well; may you get good news on Monday. And off to the Netherlands to celebrate the Sew Grands birthdays.

A warm beautiful Sunday here. A day of rest. May it be a good day for all. Celebrate.

Can you tell that took a lot of thought? Now for the comments...
Anael...what a special year this past one has been for all of us as we shared the early days of Bram and Isa. What an achievement!
QNS...all red, white, and blue 50 stars will be beautiful!
Mirabelle....I'm so happy you got back to Out of Darkness. It is so striking.
Dubib...what a fun dot to dot project.
DD...thanks. I love to piece and accuracy gets better for me as I became more aware that it was possible with a little more effort although now more of it is becoming habit and the results more consistent. I'm always up for a challenge and learning something new. That's why appliqué appeals to me just now.
Carrie...had problems with my left rotor cuff and my Dr did a process that removed scar tissue so new flesh could grow and it worked. Not without pain but good results. Hope your results are what you need!
Honchey...while the cats away the mice will play.....a few extra days of mischief before you fly south...
Jan and QuiltE...better weather coming. Bare ground in the yard and only snow banks where it was plowed. I know it's only the real beginning of winter but there is a lull for now.
    Have a great day!!!

I ran into a problem this morning and hope one of you can help me. I've been working with batiks for a long time. I test them, and if they seem like bleeders I launder them; also launder the dark colors. I'm using a dark brown/black swirls/beige thingys fabric that I did wash. It's not bleeding but black wax is coming off on my iron. I've never had this happen. I know re-washing it won't get the wax out so I just won't use this piece of fabric again unless someone knows what to do to fix it. Also, how do I get it off my iron?

Ggal, glad to hear from you and yes the weather is improving but it's so dark & dreary. Guess that's better than freezing & snowing. Your list is impressive but we'll help cheer you on.

Mirab, I usually end up with a few pieces left over when I do PB patterns--panic time! I go over what I've done to make sure something isn't missing in the block. Another thing I have to remind myself to do with her patterns is to read ahead. I made a door hanging that was supposed to have an oval shaped center; missed a few cuts so mine is a wonky oval. I really love the colors you're using.

QNS, the red, white, blue combo makes for a striking star.

Anael, thank you and your family for sharing this year with us--it has been scarey, motivational, hopeful, successful, and so much fun to watch the 3 kiddos grow.

Off to the Bat Cave. MrJanRn is helping our son install storage in his garage. Started at 10am; hope he's home by midnight LOL. Enjoy the day--do something you love.

Jan, I used to use toilet paper, paper towels or just paper (the kind you read) to iron out the wax. Many moons ago I made my own batiks and used wax (of course ). It takes quite some time before it's all gone. There is also a chemical product but I can't remember the name.

Mirabelle, when the quilts falls apart after the first laundry you know you should have used those pieces
The block is stunning! ! Is this the first block? If not, group picture please ???

Carrie, I hope the procedure will go well and you will be ok again very soon!

JanRN, the old trick DGM used on her irons was to take an old grocery sack, put a lot of table salt on it, and then 'iron' the iron on the salt, causing the grains of salt to clean the iron (sand might work, also instead of salt). If the iron is Teflon, I would not use that, but check with stores for an iron cleaner.

I do not know about wax...might ask the shop where you purchased it from, if you can remember. Or maybe someone else will have an idea. Might be you can just replace it with something else where you were using that and just bury it in your quilt room closet! LOL!

One MB done and two stars. Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes, I am liking the red, white and blue; but wonder how far I can get without a repeat of the same fabric in the stars. Whatever will be, will be. I guess.

Jan--check your LQS or even joanns or hancocks. We sell an "iron cleaner" at the shop I work in. Or do a search online...I am sure there are homemade cleaner recipes out there too.

MiraB ... I think I am up for the challenge! The quilt tops were pretty much done, so the backings and bindings are pretty straight forward. Just the one has me stumped on the do-ability of it! Well on the way with the DJs. The MBs have to be done and will be today. And the hearts will re-surface likely tomorrow, so I can start ruminating on them As for PhDs under ten ... maybe that should be my 2014 year end goal?

    QNSue ...
looks like this quilt could become a memory quilt for your years with your DH. Keeping with the RW+B theme will be so appropriate. I wouldn;t worry about not repeating your fabrics. Sometimes we get our quilts just too scrappy. Continuity can be good and let the project blend nicely together. Now, you have to re-type all of that for the Star thread!

DublB ... will be interesting to see your LadyBug LadyBlocks! As for your dot goal ... I think you missed your deadline already! Perhaps 31st?

MiraB ... oh so glad you have the spark has been re-ignited! Maybe you just needed a break from that quilt? or just had to get your mind into the space to work with the darks? It's going to be magnificent, and I know the photo is no where near as beautiful as you can see it IRL.

GGal ... oh dear, are you suggesting I need a white board to go with my project boxes. Gosh, not sure I am ready for sanity!! Seriously ... it's a perfect idea!!! I work well with lists, so putting that list in front of me, would be a perfect reminder and incentive. I think we are all welcoming that winter lull .... full well knowing it will go back at it again!

JanRN ... so you can have a day of "cat's away the mouse will play"!!!! I wash/dry all my batiks in hot/hot along with a Colour Catcher. If they are runners, they get the retayne treatment to stop that. However, I have never run into the wax problem. I would think if there was excess wax it would have disappeared with the wash cycle. Scary though, when you say you washed it ... and now have black wax coming off. Can you imagine that in your dryer? YIKES!! Wax melts, so I would alternate between ironing the hot iron on an old wet towel then onto a brown paper bag then back to the wet towel. When you think all is good, try ironing a tea towel, or something that it's OK if there is a mark and see if you are happy with the results. Definitely get in touch with your LQS ... they should know about what's happening and might be able to advise.

And now .............. I am off to my happy place!!!!!!!!

Honchey--You turn them to keep the same part of the block meeting in the middle (does that make sense??). I included a close up of a picture for you to see.

Honchey ... is JeanieG the only one without her December MB now? Hope you had a good sales day! For your 4PP ... stack your fabric and cut your squares. Then you kind of spin them out ... when you look at each of the individual squares straight on, with them placed in the 4P, the same part of the print will be on the left as is on the left of the other one. So the opposite side matches against the other one. Does that make sense? Sizes, can vary. Mine were 2-1/2" cuts ... because my print was smaller. Though CarrieM's sunflowers being larger would be a larger square. Just kind of go with the size of your print and take the block a little smaller, in order to let the kaleido show nicely.

JeanieG ... How disappointing for you.

    MiraB ... stunnnnnnnnnnnningly gorgeous!

Thanks Mirabelle....that sunflower table topper is still just a flimsy/shop sample. The fabric is almost gone so I will get to bring it home and finish it. Your blocks look like a lot of work! What a great variety of colors!!

Honchey--QE answered your question...for my sample above, I think the middle was cut 6 1/2" square and the corners were 3 1/2".

It took a couple days to recover from the EMG...I didn't realize it would affect me so much. I am feeling better now and ready for my elbow to get worked on tomorrow. I got my Alaska block fabric all cut today so it is ready when I can sew again.

Have Fun as you play, Honchey!
Fabric choice ... pretty much the same rules as OBW.
To minimize your risk ... cut a strip just the width of your squares down the selvage and layer the four repeats. If you don't like it, you've only lost that piece and have the rest of the WOF for another project ... or to change your size for the next bunch of blocks. Looking forward to your Kodak moment!

Wouldn't we all like a job like that ... to be able to play at work!

I never eat breakfast, but if I could have a piece of that cake, QNS, I would make an exception. Dang, that looks good!

No January goals for me, maybe February.
